The Travoltas Website

1.How did you get into music?

I got into music when I was probably 5 years old, then I got my first drumkit. I started playing in bands since I was 13 years old, and switched from drums to vocals later on. Most of us are playing their instruments for all their lives. We grew up listening to Kiss and Iron Maiden, later we discovered the Ramones and Bad Religion, which made us want to form a band.

2.What were your major influnces growing up?

Elvis, The Beach Boys, The Ramones, Bad Religion, Kiss, Iron Maiden, that kind of stuff.

3.How did The Travoltas form?

We formed in Highschool. I started out with Vince, we were already playing in a punkband, but our leadsinger had to be institutionalized (!), so we had to move in a different direction. I started singing, we found some other guys who were willing to start a surfpunkband, and the rest is history!

4. What has been your favourite show to date?

There are so many to choose from. We played in front of 50,000 people, but also for 1 guy who got kicked out of the club cause he brought his own beer.. Maybe the Dynamo Festival, The Lowlands Festival (both in Holland) or the Swedish Hulstfred Festival, at least they're in my top 5! The Vans Warped tour was also a great experience.

5. What has the response been to your new song released?

So far pretty good. Some people think we've gone too poppy, but we're also getting new fans coming to our show. The reviews in the magazines were, 9 out of 10, very positive.

6. Whho do you enjoy playing with?

This year we had a lot of fun with The Creetins and The Hawaiians from Germany. Also the Popsters from Italy know how to have a good party.

7. How has zines helped in getting your music out there

A lot, because it's a great way to reach out to people who might not even know us. I think it's also good for the punkrock scene, at least smaller bands get supported aswell.

8. What are your views on the mp3 format and filesharing?

I don't mind if people download a couple of songs to hear what we're all about. But if you like it, please buy it. We put a lot of time, energy, talent and money in our recordings, I think it would be unfair if musicians don't see anything back. Besides that, most mp3's sound like crap. As a producer, I put a lot of time in the recording and mixing process, and I'm not doing that to have it end up like crap on the web.

9. Do you think the internet is good for getting your music out there?

Yes. It's a great way to present yourself and make your albums available. There are so many online cd-stores and legal download sites, that it's easier for punkrock fans around the world to get music from the bands they love. I remember the old days, when I'd order an album at a store and had to wait for 3 weeks for it to arrive. Nowadays, it's just a click away.

10. Who would most like to record a song with if you could?

Brian Wilson, the Messiah of Music.

11. If The Travoltas could be on The Simpsons where would they be playing?

At Moe's of course!! With unlimited amounts of Duff Beer!

12. When touring what is the album that must be played on the tour bus?

Painkiller by Judas Priest!
