1. Are you happy how things are gone for you so far with the music?
Absolutely! The positive response has been overwhelming and it’s constantly appreciated.
2. How has the internet and songwriting competitions have helped with getting your music out there?
The competitions have been invaluable because not only are you getting feedback, you’re also exposing your music to a somewhat invisible network - you never know who is listening and you never know where it can end up. The same can be said for the internet, it’s a never ending portal and so far it’s been the main avenue for showcasing my music.
3. what inspires you when writing music?
It ranges… sometimes I’ll have a specific idea or concept that comes from personal experience whereas other times a melody will just come to me, stick in my head and never leave!!
4. have you had much label response to your music?
I’ve been fortunate to have had a great response from major labels and it’s been good to sit down and have those discussions but that’s all I’m saying for now ;-)
5. What do you think of major record labels and the new 360 deals?
I’ve only read a few articles on the 360 deals so I’m definitely no expert, however, I think as a business model the holistic idea is a clever one. They are companies at the end of the day and all companies need a way to survive and thrive.
Ultimately you need to figure out what’s going to suit you best as an artist and if a 360 deal is a part of that, then great! If not, then there are still plenty of other options out there!
6. What has been your favorite place to sing so far?
I performed at a university ball late last year and after the performance I found out that the audience consisted of people who were all brilliant classical musicians! It was amazing to have people come up to me and tell me that even though they don’t listen to popular music, they enjoyed my songs. I’m just glad that I wasn’t aware of their brilliance before I performed!
things.
7. how did the collaborations with other people help shape your music
It’s super important for me because I feel that I’m constantly learning. In addition to that, if you have a creative spark with whomever you’re working, it feeds you – and that is what also helps to inspire.
8. will you plan to go overseas to further your career in music?
It’s something that has always been in the pipeline, I’m just trying to work out the kinks as far as timing is concerned.
9. What has been the highlight so far?
Probably seeing my song ‘Scarlet Fever’ as song of the day on Popjustice.com – it was a complete surprise and I still have no idea how they came across my music!
10. How did you get into music?
I’ve been singing and writing for as long as I can remember, and I started writing for 3D World and Drum Media when I was studying at uni. The writing and recording started a few years ago and I can’t seem to stop!
11. What don't you like about the music industry?
I suppose the only thing I don’t like is how long it can take to get something going… Having said that, it makes it that much sweeter when you do succeed!
12. What do you hope the Triple M's Unsigned find will do for your career?
Well winning would of course be wonderful hahaha! In all honesty, if a few more people will have been exposed to my music and they like what they hear then I’m a happy camper.
Thanks for your time any last words
No last words Chris, but as usual thank you for your interest and support!
